Thank you for visiting our web site. We hope your electronic tour leaves you with an accurate impression of this once flourishing colonial plantation and now nationally important historic site. Furthermore, we hope your on-line experience motivates you to travel to this peaceful peninsula, or “neck,” nestled between two rivers on the Chesapeake Bay. By staying here, you and your family can immerse yourselves in educational, hands-on activities, as well as enjoy special events throughout the year.  Our room rates start at $148 per night.  Please call for specials.

Our “Standard Operating Procedures” may be anything but standard. We want you to leave TV behind and “unplug” and “tune in” to the past. Since our staff cooks supply breakfast in your kitchen for you every morning, you can decide when and where you would like to eat. Every day you will have a clean, comfortable private room with access to a common “living room” with ample seating for gathering with other travelers, perhaps old acquaintances or newly found friends. Our guest rooms provide a cozy place to relax before and after exploring the rich landscapes of Stratford Hall and its beautiful surrounding Virginia countryside.

Astor Guest House Living Room

Stratford Hall’s staff will help you in every way possible to experience the most of this small corner of the world, from educational tours of the Great House (included in your room rate) to pleasurable hikes along our three miles of scenic nature trails and fossil hunting along our beach on the Potomac River. Upon request, we can help you arrange a special outing to any, or all, of the ten award-winning wineries on the Northern Neck, a visit to popular local shops and restaurants, or a tour of the region’s museums. All of Stratford Hall’s upcoming events and programs are published in our e-newsletter and featured on our web site. Our goal is that you will enjoy your stay so much that you can hardly wait to return to the Southern hospitality that has defined the character of the Northern Neck for centuries.

Check in and check out procedures at Stratford are a bit different than those of most lodging destinations. First, we will ask for your payment in advance by way of a major credit card. With our guest facilities more like those of a country inn, we will make arrangements for you to collect your room key in case a member of our hospitality staff is not available at your scheduled time of arrival. Check in time is at 4:00 p.m. and check out is at 11:00 a.m., leaving a small margin of opportunity for cleaning rooms. Because of our limited number of guest rooms, we ask you to attend to these times when planning your activities on and off the property. If you wish to extend your stay, please contact us as soon as possible so we may accommodate you.

The Cheek House living room is a great place to lounge, watch TV, play games, and visit with family, friends and new acquaintances

For a special dining experience, we can make recommendations regarding local restaurants and have provided a folder in each guest room with descriptions of, and directions to, many area cafes and eateries. We hope that you will return to visit us often and, as always, we welcome your input.

With warmest regards, I am
