Stratford Hall is one of the great houses of American history. Its magnificent setting on a high bluff above the Potomac River and its bold architectural style set it apart from any other colonial house, but its highest distinction is the family of patriots who lived there. The roads that lead to Stratford pass through one of the most historic sections of the nation. Yorktown, Jamestown, Williamsburg, Kenmore, Monticello, Gunston Hall, and Mount Vernon are all within easy driving distance. Pope's Creek Plantation, birthplace of George Washington, is seven miles west of Stratford; the two historic properties make a perfect one day outing.
