Free – Bald Eagle Release

September 28, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Wildlife Center of Virginia, a leading teaching and research hospital for native wildlife, will release a bald eagle on Friday, September 28 at 2:00 pm at Stratford Hall.

On August 14, a private citizen in Westmoreland County noticed a Bald Eagle grounded on a rocky area of the Potomac River with what appeared to be an injured wing, possibly the result of a fight with another eagle. The eagle was captured that day and transported to the Wildlife Center.

Dr. Ingrid, one of the Center’s veterinary interns, performed an exam and found that the immature male eagle was dehydrated, in poor body condition, and infested with lice. A closer examination under anesthesia revealed a deep puncture wound on the eagle’s triceps and bruising across the pectoral muscles.

Thanks to the dedication of the Wildlife Center staff, the bald eagle has fully recovered and is now ready to be released back into the wild.

The release event is free and open to the public. Individuals who wish to attend should plan to arrive at Stratford by 1:45 p.m. Guests will be directed where to park by the front gate.
