Lees & Independence Family Fun Festival

An event for the whole family...and it's FREE! Come to Stratford Hall on June 2 from 4:30 - 8:30 PM and enjoy pony rides, games, barrel rides, a band concert, a cartoonist, colonial games, Great House tours, food and much more.

Blending fun and showcasing our deep involvement with one of the most crucial events in American History, Lee and Independence Family Fun Festival celebrates the date June 7, 1776, when Richard Henry Lee introduced the resolution for independence to the Continental Congress:

“Resolved, that these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.”

This resolution led to the writing, and subsequent adoption, of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

  • 4:30 PM - Event Begins
  • 4:30-8:00 PM - Westmoreland Co. 4-H Club Livestock exhibit
  • 4:30-8:00 PM - Treakle's Train--a barrel ride for all ages
  • 4:30-8:00 PM - Phil McKenney, cartoonist, draws free caricatures
  • 4:30-7:30 PM - Colonial games
  • 4:30-7:30 PM - Signing the Declaration of Independence activity
  • 4:30-7:00 PM - Stratford Dining Room food tent
  • 4:30-7:30 PM - Colonial dress up and photos
  • 4:00-5:00 PM - Last Great House tour
  • 5:00-7:00 PM - Meet Richard Henry Lee at Great House
  • 5:00-8:00 PM - Blymeyer Pony Rides
  • 7:00-8:00 PM - Washington & Lee HS Band Concert
  • 8:30 PM - Gate closes
