Lee Family Portraits in the Great Hall

High on the fully-paneled walls is a copy of a portrait of Thomas Lee and an original portrait of his wife Hannah Ludwell (1969.7). The other paintings are photographic copies of family portraits: Thomas's parents Richard Lee II and his wife Laetitia Corbin, and Thomas's grandparents Richard Lee I and his wife Ann Constable.

Three generations of Lee family portraits were known to have hung in the Great Hall. Their presence was documented in a letter from Thomas Lee Shippen to his father, Dr. William Shippen, in 1790.
