Stratford Hall has been offered the exciting opportunity to be the focus of the Loan Exhibition for The Washington Winter Show from January 10-12, 2014 in Washington, DC. The theme for this year’s show is “Southern Celebrations: Traditions Handed Down”. The theme of Stratford’s exhibit will be “Celebrations at Stratford Hall: Family, Food, and Festivities”. The exhibit will be a rare glimpse into the more intimate and private life of the Lees, one of Virginia’s most prominent families from the Revolutionary War through the Civil War. It will feature items that belonged to the Lee family, as well as other period items that would have been used in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in Virginia.
This is a rare chance for the public to see some of our more exciting artifacts that are not usually on display, such as an Infant’s Gown which has a family history of being the christening gown for the Lee family. Other interesting items include silver wine coasters with the squirrel crest of the Lee family, as well as a Music Book which belonged to Mary Randolph Custis Lee in the mid-nineteeth century.
