Smokehouse
As part of the initial work of preserving the frame smokehouse in the kitchen yard, excavations were undertaken. Testing was done in the interior as well as on the exterior of all four sides of the building's foundations. The artifacts discovered support architectural research, confirming a construction date in the 18th century for the smokehouse. A small square that was investigated in the kitchen yard revealed excellent preservation of artifacts and ethnobotanical remains. Fish scales, twigs, and ceramics were all recovered in this area, promising exciting results when the entire kitchen yard is excavated.
