Field Trips

Elementary School Educational Adventure (3rd – 6th grade)

Field Trip
  • Four-hour, customizable program for students
  • Great hands-on, participation approach
  • Immerses students in plantation life in 18th-Century Virginia
  • Teachers can select from eleven program stations, each designed to meet Virginia’s Standards of Learning (SOL) criteria
  • Allows teachers to create a unique learning experience catered specifically to their student and curriculum needs
  • All program stations last approximately twenty minutes, except the gristmill and fossil stations
Field Trip

If you wish to do either the gristmill or fossil stations, please contact Laura Lawfer, Assistant Director of Education, at (804) 493-8038, ext. 1920. Since both of these programs are located farther away from the Great House, they require more time than the standard twenty-minute programs. We can easily work them into your school's schedule, but this will affect the number of program stations teachers can choose.

Students travel in small groups from station to station with a knowledgeable, costumed Stratford Interpreter who serves as a mediator between past and present, teaching the material while facilitating important discussion and the station activities. The small group size ensures that each student receives individual attention and optimum time with the hands-on activities.

All programs will continue rain or shine, but Stratford Hall reserves the right to alter program locations and length based on weather conditions.
