    Dining at Stratford Hall

    The Dining Room is open to the public for lunch daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  An optional lunch buffet will be served on Saturdays and Sundays beginning April 13, 2013.  The Dining Room now serves dinner from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.  The Dining Room is also available to serve large groups (15 or more) for other meals by reservation by contacting Benedicte Merian.     Meeting Planners

    Stratford Hall offers a variety of meeting spaces to accommodate both large and small groups. Conferences needing larger spaces can choose from the Council House, Preservation Gallery and duPont Library. Dinner or luncheon meetings can ideally be held in the Stratford Hall Dining Room. Smaller retreats and meetings can choose from the more intimate settings of the Astor and Cheek Guest Houses and Stratford Hall’s Lodging and Conference Center (formerly the Executive Director’s residence).

    Tickets and Tours

    Admission
    Adults (12 yrs. and up): $10.00
    Adults (Groups of 20 or more, age 12 and up): $9.00
    Seniors (60 and up), AAA members: $9.00
    National Trust for Historic Preservation members: $9.00
    Children 6-11: $5.00
    Children (groups of 20 or more): $4.50
    Children 5 and under: Free
    Active Duty Military: Stratford has joined the Blue Star Museum Program that allows free admission from Memorial Day to Labor Day for active duty military personnel with ID (or spouse if deployed) and up to five family members. For more information on the program, visit Blue Star Museums. From Labor Day to Memorial Day, active duty military personnel and family members receive $1 off of admission: $9 adults and $4 children 6-11.

    A Grounds Pass can be purchased which entitles the purchaser to access the hiking trails, public beach area, gardens, public grounds, Visitor Center, Dining Room and Gift Shop. The pass does not include admission to the Great House and other historic buildings. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The Grounds Pass will be valid only for the day it is purchased..

    Hours of Operation

    Hours of Operation
    Stratford Hall is open daily for tours 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.until December 30, 2013, except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Closed New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

    Great House tours
    Are on the hour: please plan to arrive at the Visitor Center 15 minutes before tour time. Tours are approximately 45 minutes in length.

    Gift Shop
    Is open from 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

    Dining Room
    Is open for lunch every day from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Open for dinner 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

    Jessie Ball DuPont Memorial Library
    Is open to researchers (by appointment only) on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5 :00 p.m.

    The Beach & Overlook
    The road to the beach and Potomac overlook is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Please call ahead if there has been recent inclement weather, as this can cause the road to be closed from the overlook to the beach.

    Nature Trails
    All of the six nature trails are open during normal visitor hours.

    Gristmill
    The Gristmill will be in operation on the second Saturday in the month from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., April to October.

    Directions

    Stratford Hall Plantation is located just off State Route 3 on State Route 214, six miles northwest of Montross, Virginia in Westmoreland County and 42 miles southeast of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

    Directions from Washington
    From Eastern half of the Beltway: Take Maryland Route 5 South to U.S. Route 301 South. About 10 miles after crossing the Potomac River toll bridge, turn left onto Virginia Route 3 East. Follow Route 3 for 20 miles, then take a left onto Route 214 at Lerty, Virginia. Follow Route 214 for 2 miles. Stratford’s gate is on the left.
    From the Western half of the Beltway: Take I-95 South to Virginia Route 3 East (exit 130A on I-95) in Fredericksburg. Follow Route 3 for about 45 miles, then take a left onto Route 214 at Lerty, Virginia. Follow Route 214 for 2 miles. Stratford’s gate is on the left.

    Directions from Richmond
    Take Route 360 East to Warsaw, Virginia. In Warsaw, take Route 3 West to Montross, Virginia. From Montross, continue on Route 3 to Route 214 at Lerty, Virginia. (It is 5 miles past the town of Montross.) Turn right and follow Route 214 for 2 miles. Stratford’s gate is on the left.

    Visitor Center

    Suggested Group Itinerary
    Off of Pope’s Creek, a tributary of the Potomac River, is George Washington Birthplace National Monument, which includes the heart of Augustine Washington’s plantation, the 17th century homesite of the immigrant John Washington, and the Washington Family Burial Ground. Tour the Colonial Revival memorial house and dependencies constructed in honor of the bicentennial of Washington’s birth and as part of the creation of the national park in 1932. Visit the colonial farm where George Washington was born and took his first steps and immerse yourself in an 18th century experience that includes, gardens, outbuildings, fields and heritage breed animals.     Continue your journey down Route 3 East to Stratford Hall for lunch in the dining room and a tour of the Great House. Stratford is the home of two signers of the Declaration of Independence, Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, and birthplace of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The Georgian Great House was built in c.1738 and the grounds still encompass 1900 acres of the original land which sits high along the bluffs overlooking the Potomac River.     Return back up Route 3 to Oak Grove and Ingleside Plantation Vineyards and Winery. Ingleside was built in 1834 and vineyards now cover about 50 acres of gently rolling countryside.     Stratford Hall has 3 choices for on-site lodging:
    Cheek Guest House
    Astor Guest House
    Guest Cabin

    Both guest houses have comfortable living rooms with satellite TV, central heating and air conditioning, and guest rooms with private baths and wireless Internet access. Together, the houses have a total of 20 guest rooms. Lodging in the Guest Cabins is available on a limited basis upon request.

    Tours
    Complimentary tour tickets are provided for overnight guests.

    Meals
    A buffet breakfast, lunch or dinner in the Stratford Hall Dining Room for groups of 15 or more can be arranged with advance notice. Local restaurant information for evening dining is available upon request.
