Program: Plants from the PastWhen:From: Mar 20, 2010 @ 9:30 AM to Mar 20, 2010 @ 3:00 PM Description:"Plants from the Past: A Living Legacy for our Gardens and Yours." Come join us at Stratford Hall and greet spring's first day with this celebration of historic plants and gardens. Opening the day's activities will be Monticello's curator of plants Peggy Cornett speaking on "Historic Plants: Why Grow Them, Where to Get Them, and How to Tend Them." Joining us too will be Dennis Whetzel, nursery manager at the Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic Plants at Monticello. Widely recognized for his knowledge of old garden roses, Dennis will provide tips on rose propagation and have some historic plants available for sale that would fit perfectly in your own garden. After lunch, Stratford Hall's long-time garden consultant Donald Haynie will close the day in his truly inimitable style with a presentation on monastic gardens, demonstrating the great debt we today owe the monks of medieval Europe for preserving gardening traditions which otherwise might have been lost forever. For more details, contact Ken McFarland via email or phone 804-493-8038 ext. 1558. Where:This event will be held at: Stratford Hall Directions: |
