Also known as a jack arch or straight arch, a flat arch is an arch with a horizontal intrados (inner curve.) Flat arches have little or no convexity. The flat arches of Stratford Hall's upper story windows possess gauged brick. The bricks were cut or sawn to a wedge-shaped form and then rubbed for a smooth finish.
